Vincent GICQUEL

Presentation

Over the last ten years, Vincent Gicquel has demonstrated his ability to integrate a sense of the human condition into his canvases, with their striking colors and unsettling tragicomic subjects. Having drawn inspiration from the German painters of the Leipzig School, Gicquel leaves behind the realistic line to focus on the much more supple line, the result of a more marginal creative process. The characters are single, sometimes two, sometimes three or more. All seem happy, and all seem sad at the same time. The viewer is undeniably drawn into the scene, where the characters go about their unstoppable business.

The Collection Pinault supports Gicquel, notably through the acquisition of 5 of his works in 2018, for his exhibition Debout! in Rennes.
